Hera Gallery is proud to present SHAME, a national juried exhibition by Anna Dempsey, a Professor and chairperson of Art History at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The show will take place at Hera Gallery, at 10 High Street in Wakefield, RI, from April 6th to May 4th, 2019. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception on Saturday, April 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Gallery will also hold an artist talk on Thursday, April 18th, at 7p.m to discuss the artist’s process, materials, and ongoing artistic concepts.
Hera believes the concept of shame has reached a new level of importance in current events. The exhibition Shame attempts to explore the term in its many dimensions: shame in relation to power and oppression, the danger of being shameless, the difference in its manifestation in men and women, the way in which different culture view shame, and shame as a empathy seeking tool that elevates self-serving judgment.
A total of 356 pieces of artwork were submitted. 30 pieces of photographs, collages, paintings, drawing, sculpture, jewelry, videos, and installation were selected to participate in the exhibition from artists all over the country.
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 6th, 2019, 6-8p.m. For more information about the gallery, visit https://www.heragallery.org/
